Harvard University has been acquiring scientific instruments on a continuous basis for teaching and research since 1672. The Collection of Historical Scientific Instruments (CHSI), which was established in 1948 to preserve this apparatus as a resource for teaching and research in the history of science and technology, has become one of the three largest university collections of its kind in the world.
This app provides a guide to the Collection’s objects located in the Putnam Gallery as well as to objects and installations elsewhere in the Harvard University Science Center. As you approach areas of the gallery, content will unlock on the app. We’ve unlocked our Welcome message and our Colonial Science area to give you an idea of what kinds of features are available once you visit the Collection in person.
* As you approach specific areas, you’ll receive notifications to check out the objects you’re near.
* Tap notifications as they appear to view more information about the objects around you.
* Or use the “Tour” section to view all our topic areas at once.
* Either way, experience the story in more detail with additional text, video, audio, and zoomable images.
* Share your experience with your Facebook friends or Twitter followers.
